The bahia nut (Mitragyna Ciliata) also called Abura, is a tree belonging to the broad-leaved family, native to West Africa.The tree reaches a good size: height up to 35 m, with a breast diameter of 90-120 cm. The stem, devoid of basal buttresses, is straight and with regular sections.
The sapwood, of a white-yellowish color, is slightly differentiated from the gray-pink or light brown heartwood, uniform and opaque. It has a fine and compact texture with a straight fiber. It is not particularly durable, especially in the fresh state and is attacked by Lyctus.
It is used in carpentry, to make floor boards, frames, turned works, foundry models and for the production of plywood.
