The sapwood is reddish-gray and rich in resin, differentiated from the reddish-brown heartwood. It has three shades, a very resinous whitish, a pinkish color also rich in resin, a darker reddish with less resin. It has a medium to coarse texture, with straight grain. The sapwood is not durable, the heartwood resists the attack of fungi and insects well, but is attacked by the Lyctus.
